Press Release Summary: Sun Microsystems has developed an efficient method for admitting conference attendees who have enrolled for conference sessions. Using Tracient Technologies’ Explore-R HF RFID reader and the Nokia E61i phone, Sun’s conference staff can scan attendees\' badges while they are in line meaning they are moved much faster into seminar rooms than in previous years, ensuring less time in queues for attendees and everyone being seated on time for the sessions.
Press Release Body: The JavaOneSM Conference, hosted annually by Sun Microsystems, is a four-day developer event that focuses on Java™ technology. The Conference attracts a large number of developers, which means not everyone can attend every session. Attendees are encouraged to enrol online on a first-come, first-served basis. However, demand typically exceeds capacity. So when the time comes for attendees to enter a session, Sun needs an efficient method for identifying those who have enrolled versus those who haven’t. And with so many attendees, doing this quickly and accurately is the real challenge.
To meet this challenge, Sun has implemented a solution based on the Nokia E61i phone and Tracient Technologies’ Explore-R HF RFID reader. Using the E61i phone, Sun\'s events team can acquire the latest conference enrolment information via WiFi. When an attendee’s conference pass (containing an RFID tag) is scanned using the Explore-R reader, it compares the ID number with the enrolment information on the phone. Those who have pre-enrolled are allowed into the session. And those who haven’t are either put into the standby line (if they are eligible) or turned away (if they are not eligible).
The solution proved a huge success at the 2008 Conference. The ability to scan people\'s badges while they were in line meant they were moved much faster into the rooms than in previous years, ensuring less time in queues for attendees and everyone being seated on time for the sessions.
